City Ghost StoriesUnder Singapore’s modern look, there are many urban legends from its complex history. The famous Red House of Pasir Ris, though torn down, still has stories of restless ghosts. On Pulau Tekong island, people talk about ghost soldiers still marching. The cry of the pontianak (female vampire) is said to be heard even among tall buildings, reminding people of old stories. Pulau Ubin island has sightings of Nenek Keropok (an old ghost who likes shrimp chips). The old Changi Hospital is known for being haunted. Ghost hitchhikers are said to appear on Tampines Road, and strange things are seen at the Old Ford Factory.
